The Legend of Widow's Run
On the western edge of New Bloomfield in Perry County is a stream so small that its name does not appear on the map, but over a century ago this tiny tributary of Little Juniata Creek was known as Widow's Run. According to local legend, an impoverished widow, whose name has been lost to history, once lived near the stream and she was said to be so poor that her child starved to death. For generations, local residents told stories about the widow's ghost, who was said to haunt the area. The following account of the legend is from the February 11, 1920 edition of the Perry County Democrat.
