The Headless Ghost of Waynesboro


One of the creepiest locales in Pennsylvania is that region south of Waynesboro in Franklin County in the vicinity of Blue Ridge Summit near the Mason-Dixon Line. It is here you can find the infamous ultra-top-secret military installation know as Raven Rock. Known as the "underground Pentagon", this subterranean nuclear bunker was designed during the Cold War to house the federal government's top brass in the event of a nuclear attack. 

Straddling the Mason-Dixon Line is the village of Pen-Mar. The old highway running from Pen-Mar to Waynesboro is now known as Route 550, and it boasts one of the deadliest curves in the state's highway system. The Waynesboro "death curve" has claimed numerous victims since the early days of automobile travel. During the 1920s, it was also reputed to be the home of a snappily-dressed headless ghost.
