The Abandoned Path Valley Railroad Tunnel

There is something inherently spooky about tunnels. To some, a tunnel evokes the chill of the unknown, and the possibility of danger lurking in the inky blackness. To others, a tunnel may bring to mind portals to hell or another dimension. At any rate, most of us feel the hair on the back of necks standing on end whenever we venture inside. If abandoned tunnels are your thing, enjoy my video tour of the unfinished Path Valley Railroad Tunnel. Construction of this proposed 2,600-foot tunnel through Conococheague Mountain began in 1893, but the project was abandoned after the railroad went bankrupt. Today, this Pennsylvania oddity is easy accessible vial the Tunnel Trail at Big Spring State Park.
