The Suicide of Boardman Hazen

One of the many Hazen family members buried at North Sewickley Cemetery

The story of Boardman Hazen's 1893 suicide has all the makings of a fantastic novel-- an agonizing death by rat poisoning, an unfaithful wife who meets her secret lover for trysts at various hotels, and a secret lover who also happens to be the local minister. This account of Hazen's suicide comes from the July 15, 1893 edition of the Pittsburgh Daily Post.
